Canandaigua Emergency Squad is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charitable community organization serving the city of Canandaigua, towns of Canandaigua, Hopewell, and Gorham, as well as all of Ontario County, NY.

As a community based volunteer ambulance and rescue service since 1940, we provide primary ambulance service to a 144 square mile district in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.

Did you know—heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, one in four deaths are caused by heart disease. February is American Heart Month and serves to raise awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent it.

So how can you take steps to live a more heart-healthy life? A good start is eating healthy and moving more. Whether it’s biking, running or walking, shoot for 150 minutes of movement a week.

Our Squad started off 2018 by responding to 505 calls in January. Sickness was the most common reason for calls (87), followed by falls (67), troubled breathing (44), motor vehicle accidents (28) and unconsciousness (16).

Responses were split almost evenly between men (52%) and women (48%). The 70 and older age group was the most commonly called for (49%), followed by 40-69 (30%), 20-39 (11%), and 20 and younger (10%). #ReadyWillingAble
