The Canandaigua Emergency Squad is always looking for new volunteers to help the community. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out the form below. We have several positions available to our volunteers:
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is the person responsible for patient care in the field. To begin training as an EMT at CES you must hold a valid NYS EMT-Basic certification. EMTs begin their time at CES riding on the ambulance under the guidance of a field training officer (FTO). This is where you will gain valuable field knowledge to fully prepare yourself for practicing on the ambulance on your own. When your field training is complete you will become cleared; meaning you are able to go on calls without an FTO.
The driver is responsible for ensuring a safe journey for the crew and the patient while in the ambulance. Drivers must be at least twenty-one years of age and possess a valid NYS driver's license. Drivers also interact with other members of the crew to assist with patient care under their direction. Drivers begin their time at CES driving the ambulance under the guidance of a field training officer (FTO). Our driving process familiarizes the driver with the dimensions and nuances of the ambulance. Also included in the driver's training is a course in proper operation of an emergency vehicle using red lights and sirens. When your field training is complete you will become cleared; meaning you are able to go on calls without an FTO.
An assistant helps with patient crew on the ambulance under the direction of the crew. Assistants must be at least eighteen years of age and do not require any certifications or licenses. Assistants begin their time at CES riding with ambulance crews gaining experience and helping with patient care.
The Canandaigua Emergency Squad also has several other positions available for those who wish to volunteer their time but do not wish to do so on the ambulance.
